Chicken and oats Biryani Recipe

With a simple switch from rice to oats, the good old Biryani becomes a nutritious dish fortified with fibre, while retaining its traditional cooking method of layering and achieving the same authentic, rich taste that makes it everyone’s all-time favourite dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Saffola oil
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp green cardamom
  • 2 Packets Saffola Masala Oats- Classic Masala
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp chopped green chillies
  • 1 bowl chopped chicken breast
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp curd
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tbsp caramelized onions 

How to make Chicken and oats Biryani

  • ​To start preparing the Oats layer, heat half the oil in a kadhai, add the cardamom and cinnamon and sauté for 1 minute
  • Add the Saffola Masala Oats - Classic Masala, along with 2 packets of water
  • Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes. Keep aside.
  • Next, for the chicken masala layer, heat the remaining oil in a kadhai. add the onions, ginger and garlic paste, and green chillies. Sauté on a medium flame till they turn golden brown.
  • Add the chicken, chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and coriander powder. Cook till the chicken is done. Add water if it is looking too dry. 
  • Add curd and mix it into the chicken masala thoroughly. Cook for few minutes. 
  • Next, take the serving dish and start layering the biryani. Start with the Oats layer, and then follow it with the chicken masala layer. Make as many layers as required.
  • Garnish with caramelized onions. You could also add pomegranate seeds and mint leaves.
