Ingredients

  • 250g whole grain macaroni, cooked until al dente
  • 2 tbsp Saffola oil    
  • 30g finely chopped onion
  • 10g finely chopped garlic
  • 30g plain flour            
  • 500ml low-fat 2% milk
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 50g low fat cheddar, grated
  • 15g finely chopped parsley
  • 1 Packet Saffola Oats
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 15g melted butter
  • 50g Parmesan cheese
  • Salt to taste                
  • Freshly ground white or black pepper

How to make Macaroni in White sauce

  • Preheat oven to 180C
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottom non stick saucepan. Add the garlic and onions and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add the flour and stir well for 1-2 minutes until sand like but not brown
  • Add the milk all at once, with bay leaf, stirring rapidly and constantly. Make sure that the heat is at the minimum because the sauce shouldn’t get stuck to the base. {If it does, transfer to another pan immediately and continue}
  • Stir in the grated cheese and parsley. Season with salt and freshly grated pepper. Cook until thick, smooth and velvety, 8-10 minutes. STIRRING CONSTANTLY, make sure the sauce doesn’t catch the base
  • Pour over cooked pasta and mix well. Turn into a baking dish
  • Toss the oats with the parmesan cheese and then melted butter
  • Sprinkle over macaroni in sauce
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown
