Thai Basil Vegetarian Fried Rice Recipe

A delicious preparation of rice that is made spicy with Thai red chillies. This is a dish that can be incorporated with a variety of flavours with lots of room for experimentation and adaptation.

    • 2 cups of pre-cooked short grain rice or jasmine sticky rice
    • 2 tablespoons Saffola oil
    • 1 teaspoon ginger, finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon garlicfinely chopped
    • 1/2 cup spring onionsfinely chopped
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
    • 1/2 cup of green bell pepperfinely chopped
    • 1/2 cup of carrotsfinely chopped
    • 1/2 cup beansfinely chopped
    • 1/2 cup pineapple (tinned)finely chopped
    • 4-6 Thai chilis, crushed with seeds (or 2 serrano peppers)
    • 3 Thai red chillies, slit lengthwise (more if you like it spicier)
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 cup fresh Thai basil, loosely chopped


    Alternative Ingredients


    • 2 cups of button mushrooms, quartered
    • 4 eggs, scrambled

How to make Thai Basil Vegetarian Fried Rice

    • Heat oil in a wok on high heat; add the ginger, garlic, onions, Thai red chillies, peppers, carrots and beans
    • Sprinkle some salt and stir fry all of them together on high heat until lightly cooked
    • Stir in the soy sauce, pineapple and stir-fry for a few more minutes. Finally stir in the cooked rice, Thai basil leaves
    • Stir fry them until well combined with all the ingredients
    • Serve the Thai Basil Fried Rice along with Malaysian Vegetable Curry for dinner or as a party food with friends
