Tofu In Spicy Bean Sauce Recipe

This spicy bean-based sauce recipe is a popular Chinese dish made in the Sichuan province. Traditionally the dish is made with minced meat like pork or beef, and the vegetarian version is made with tofu. The tofu is immersed in a thin and spicy Sichuan sauce, which is then flavored with black bean paste.

    • 100 grams button mushrooms, chopped finely
    • 200 grams soft tofu
    • 2 tablespoons asian-style sweet bean paste
    • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    • 2-inch ginger, finely chopped
    • 1/2 cup spring onions, finely chopped
    • Saffola oil for cooking

    For the sauce

    • 1 teaspoons soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon Sichuan chilli paste
    • 1 teaspoon Sichuan peppercorns, finely ground
    • 1 packet Saffola Chinese Oats
    • Salt to taste

How to make Tofu In Spicy Bean Sauce

    • In a mixing bowl, add ingredients for the sauce and mix it with 1 cup water and keep it aside.
    • Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil, add ginger, garlic, spring onions, mushrooms, sauté till all the water evaporates and becomes dry.
    • Once done add the bean paste and the tofu, and sauté for few minutes.
    • Then add the sauce mixture and bring it to a boil. Check for seasonings. Once it thickens little, switch off the heat and serve.
