Zero Oil Oats Uttappam Recipe

A no oil, no fried meal isn't very difficult to achieve. This Zero Oil Oats Sooji Uttapam is proof of that. Delicious, healthy and very nourishing, this uttapam is a twist on the traditional South Indian uttapam recipe. Instead of using rice flour, ground oats and sooji are blended together, which is similar in taste to the original but in a healthier way. Cooking of the batter without oil, but with steaming makes it even more delicious. This uttapam can be garnished with coriander and eaten with coconut or tomato chutney on the side.

Ingredients

    • Saffola Plain oats – 1 cup
    • Sooji – 1 cup
    • Buttermilk – 1 cup
    • Water – 2 cups
    • Onion – 2 tbsp ( Finely chopped )
    • Carrot – 2 tbsp ( grated )
    • Capsicum – 2 tbsp ( Finely chopped )
    • Green chilli – 1 tsp ( Chopped )
    • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
    • Salt to taste

How to make Zero Oil Oats Uttappam

    • Add Saffola Plain Oats in the jar of a blender.
    • Pour buttermilk on top and let it rest for 2 minutes.
    • Blend to make a smooth mixture.
    • Add sooji in the mixture and mix well.
    • Keep the mixture aside for 5 minutes.
    • Add more water to make a batter like dosa batter.
    • Add onion, carrot, capsicum, green chilli, cumin seeds and salt and mix well.
    • Heat a nonstick pan.
    • When the pan is hot, pour a ladle full of batter in the centre and spread to make a round uttapam.
    • Cover and cook until browned from the bottom.
    • Flip and cook from the other side as well.
    • Serve hot .
